Hair loss sufferer advised to check hormone levels
Published: 5th of May 2010
A young woman suffering from hair loss has been advised to go to her GP so her hormone levels can be checked.Writing into the Telegraph, the individual, who is 31 years old, said she has noticed that her locks are falling out "at a great rate" in the shower.
While this does not hurt, it has worrying, she went on to note.
Responding to her concerns, medical expert Dr Dan Rutherford pointed out that some loss of tresses is common in women after the menopause, however, it is less widespread prior to this.
He suggested that she visits her doctor so she can be tested for her hormone levels, as thyroid problems can result in people shedding their tresses.
Also, polycystic ovary syndrome may be behind the issue, he added.
As well as hormonal imbalances, genetics, traumatic medical events and a poor diet can all contribute to hair loss.
