Women can experience hair loss after a pregnancy, expert says
Published: 4th of May 2010
Women experience a number of physical changes when they are pregnant and after their babies are born. One such alteration may be a thinning of their tresses, according to Dr Suzanne Gilberg-Lenz, who noted on Momlogic.com that around three to five months after giving birth, females can lose some of their hair.
The expert said that during pregnancy, much of their locks enter the resting phase of the growth cycle and remain there, rather than falling out.
However, once the child is born and hormones get back to normal levels, the natural process begins again and tresses are shed.
Unless they come out in large clumps or cause patchy baldness, people need not worry.
If they do, a medical practitioner should be contacted, Dr Gilberg-Lenz claimed.
As well as pregnancy, a poor diet, genes, stress and traumatic physical events are all factors that can lead to locks becoming thinner.
