Published: 29th of April 2010
A woman suffered hair loss after developing lupus, it has been revealed.Karon Beasley said that shedding her tresses was one of the symptoms she experienced as a result of the disease, the Cherokee Tribune reports.
A chronic condition that results in inflammation in the body's tissues, lupus is an autoimmune response.
The immune systems of those who have it attack their healthy cells and tissue.
Sufferers can experience a variety of problems, ranging from mild to serious and some develop other medical complications.
Ms Beasley said she suffered for years before her condition was diagnosed by experts.
She noted that as well as hair loss, she suffered from a rapid heart rate, bad joint pains and a need to sleep for 12 to 14 hours a day.
Along with fellow lupus patient Stacie Collett, she is raising money for research into the disease to help others in situations similar to her own.
