Hair loss 'can be symptom of hypothyroidism'
Published: 28th of April 2010
Some people who suffer from hypothyroidism can experience hair loss as one of the symptoms, it has been pointed out.Commenting on the issue, the Jamaica Gleaner noted that a thinning of people's tresses is one of a number of potential effects of the medical condition, which is also referred to as underactive thyroid.
Other things to look out for are brittle nails, depression, poor memory, intolerance to cold, weight gain and low energy.
The news source pointed out that women are more likely to suffer from it than men and females may be particularly at risk just after having a baby, or at the onset of the menopause.
During these stages of life, hair loss may also be more of a risk due to hormonal changes that individuals go through.
For example, some women witness a loss of their tresses after giving birth to a child.
While the hair generally returns after a number of months, the experience can be distressing for those affected.
