Politician causes controversy with hair loss comments
Published: 26th of April 2010
A politician has caused controversy with comments he made concerning hair loss.According to a HealthExpress report, the Bolivian president recently suggested that consuming a particular food can result in tresses falling out.
Speaking at an environmental conference, the statesman claimed that "eating hormone-injected chicken causes baldness".
Experts dismissed his suggestions, the news provider went on to note.
It also listed a number of real causes of tresses thinning, including male-pattern baldness.
Also referred to as androgenic alopecia, this can affect both men and women.
Meanwhile, hormone imbalances can also result in hair loss, HealthExpress pointed out, as can a combination of stress and hereditary factors.
Another condition that results in people losing their locks is alopecia areata.
According to the NHS, this affects around one in 100 people and is most common among teenagers and young adults. In a fifth of cases, the problem runs in families.
