Hypothyroidism 'may contribute to hair loss'
Published: 26th of April 2010
Hypothyroidism leads to a range of symptoms among sufferers and in some cases, it may contribute to hair loss.Writing in the Irish Independent, Sarah Spendiff revealed that the health of her tresses was affected by the medical condition.
The problem, which is caused by an underactive gland located in the neck, results in weight gain, depression, coldness and brittle hair and nails.
Commenting on her experiences, Ms Spendiff said: "I'd gone from an active, outgoing, vivacious person to living like a little old lady barely able to leave the house and surviving by napping every few hours throughout the day."
Another person to have suffered problems with her hair is celebrity Sherrie Hewson.
Recently, she told the Daily Mail that she began shedding her locks as a result of stress caused by personal problems.
However, the TV presenter went on to say that she fought back and is now much healthier.
