Woman in 20s describes hair loss experience

Hair loss is a medical condition that is not restricted to older individuals, as the experiences of one individual confirm.In a letter to the News of the World, a woman referred to as Stephanie said she is in her 20s and she has patches of baldness on her scalp.
According to the reader, the areas are roughly the size of 50p coins and they are in a total of five locations on her head.
Responding to her comments, Dr Hilary Jones said she is suffering from alopecia areata, which affects around one in 100 people in Britain.
He stated: "It's usually caused by an autoimmune disorder where your body makes antibodies that attack hair follicles. It can be genetic or triggered by a virus or allergy."
The medical expert went on to note that the good news for Stephanie is that in half of cases, hair will re-grow within a year.
Alopecia areata is particularly prevalent in teenagers and young adults and in some cases it can progress into hair loss over the whole scalp or body.
