Hyperthyroid patients 'can suffer hair loss'
Published: 16th of April 2010
People who suffer from overactive thyroids can experience hair loss as a result, it has been noted.Commenting on the subject, Dr Theo Friedman from Charles Drew University in Los Angeles said such individuals are known to sometimes witness a thinning of their tresses, an EmpowHer blog states.
He added that they may see their locks falling out in the shower.
Also, the hair on the outer part of their eyebrows is commonly lost, the expert claimed.
Meanwhile, discussing the effect losing tresses can have on women in particular, the news source stated that they can find it particularly distressing and for most, losing their hair would be a "very upsetting prospect".
Hyperthyroidism, which is also known as thyrotoxicosis, occurs when there is too much thyroid hormone in the body.
According to the NHS, it is more common among women than men and it can lead to an increased appetite and over-activity.
