Hair loss can be 'both cause and effect of stress'
Published: 13th of April 2010
Hair loss can be both caused by and result in stress, a medical expert has noted.Writing in the Hindu, Dr Venugopal Gouri said that the condition can give rise to anxiety.
He remarked: "Hair loss can hurt your ego and give you sleepless nights." However, he added that "with a little insight" things can change.
The doctor went on to point out that there are a number of potential reasons why people shed their locks, with stress being one of them.
He commented: "It could occur after an incident which occurs within a month of acute psychological trauma like robbery, combat [or] natural disasters."
Dr Gouri also stated that genetic factors can play a role in the falling of tresses, as can thyroid problems and hormone imbalances.
Those seeking to minimise the risk of hair loss should make sure they eat a balanced diet rich in substances such as vitamins and protein.
