Man cites genes as cause of his hair loss
Published: 9th of April 2010
A man has noted that his genetic makeup has left him predisposed to suffering from baldness.Writing in the Amherstburg Echo, Ron Giofu said his older male family members are affected by hair loss.
For this reason, it was no surprise to him when he began to lose his tresses.
He remarked: "The hair up there is thinning in some spots so I'm not cool with that, but hey, that's my family heritage. Some families pass down wealth, mine passes down male-pattern baldness."
This form of hair loss is also known as androgenic alopecia and it is the most common reason for people to shed their locks.
Despite its name, it is not exclusively a male condition as women can be afflicted by it too.
Another cause of hair loss is alopecia areata, which involves patches of baldness that may come and go and is most common in teenagers and young adults.
