Many men 'blame genes for hair loss'
Published: 7th of April 2010
A considerable proportion of men who suffer from hair loss identify their genes as the cause. This is according to TriCities.com, which conducted a poll of 8,082 online subscribers and found that the majority of male respondents said this was the reason for their tresses falling out.
Some women also noted that genetic composition played a role in hair loss.
Meanwhile, others reported a belief that a health condition had been the reason for their thinning tresses.
One of the examples of such a problem cited by the resource was thyroid disease.
The gland produces hormones that are released into the body and control growth and metabolism.
Sometimes, people can suffer from a hyperactive or an underactive thyroid and hair loss is one potential symptom.
Other causes of tresses falling out include serious injuries or major surgery and childbirth.
In addition, a bad diet and alcohol abuse are known to weaken locks and increase the risk of baldness.
