People 'can underestimate impact of hair loss'

It is often the case that people underestimate the impact that losing hair can have on a person, it has been claimed.According to hair dresser Patti Wood, some individuals are unaware of the importance of locks for people's identities, the Bradenton Herald reports.
She remarked: "People dismiss it and say 'It's just hair'. But they don't understand how important having hair is."
Ms Wood has herself had experience of the effect of losing tresses.
Her 18-year-old daughter Carli developed alopecia areata when she was young.
This is a medical condition which results in patches of baldness that may come and go.
According to the NHS, it affects around one in 100 people and is most common in teenagers and young adults.
In one in five cases, it runs in families and it is thought to be caused by a problem with the immune system. Most sufferers experience a re-growth of hair after about a year.
