Celebrity describes "shock" at hair loss recovery
Published: 6th of April 2010
TV presenter Gail Porter has described her surprise at the return of her tresses after five years suffering from alopecia. The bubbly Scot said her recovery from alopecia is "still such a shock" and she keeps seeing herself in shop windows and thinking "'hey! Who's that blonde chick?'", the Daily Mirror reports.
She lost her hair five years ago and cites stress and unhappiness as the cause.
Now, the 39-year-old is dating toyboy rocker Jonny Davies and says her new-found contentedness may be behind the re-emergence of her locks.
Doctors had told her it was unlikely that she would recover from her alopecia.
According to the NHS, the most common form of the condition is androgenic alopecia, which is also referred to as male-pattern baldness and can affect both men and women.
Commenting on her recovery, Gail said: "It must be because right now I'm happier than I've been for a long time, so much is going right for me. And the big difference in my life is Jonny."
