Published: 30th of March 2010
If people engage in excessive hair styling, they may be putting themselves at an increased risk of hair loss, it has been noted.According to consultant dermatologist Dr Derrick Aw, such activity can weaken tresses, AsiaOne reports.
He commented: "Excessive hair treatment, such as the use of hot curlers, may ... cause hair to become fragile."
The expert also pointed out that individuals can lose their locks as a result of their genes.
He noted that male-pattern and female-pattern baldness are common and have hereditary causes.
Meanwhile, Dr Pang Shiu Meng, the head of the dermatology department at the Singapore General Hospital, said that people can lose their hair in the wake of major health events, such as giving birth or surgery.
Those keen to reduce their chances of shedding their locks may want to ensure they consume sufficient levels of protein, as this is known to enhance the health of hair.
