Women 'can suffer hair loss after having babies'
Published: 26th of March 2010
One time of life during which women may be more susceptible to hair loss is in the wake of giving birth. This is according to Harry Heiti, who suggested that many females observe a thinning of their tresses around three months after having a baby.
He said that when they are pregnant, women have high levels of hormones that cause them to keep hair that would normally fall out.
When the chemicals in their bodies return to normal levels, their regular cycles of growth and loss begin again, meaning hair is lost.
Mr Heiti also went on to note that tresses can be shed following an illness or major surgery, as well as when people start taking certain medications.
Furthermore, a number of individuals suffer from alopecia areata, which is an autoimmune disorder.
People looking to minimise hair fall should ensure they have a healthy diet which contains the necessary nutrients, including protein.
