Hair extensions 'causing hair loss'
Published: 17th of March 2010
In an effort to emulate celebrities, people are increasingly opting to have hair extensions fitted and they may be risking hair loss in the process. This is according to an article in the Sydney Morning Herald, which noted that more women are seeking instantly thicker and longer locks.
Commenting on the issue, hair specialist Jennifer Martinick said salons are "falling over each other" to offer such services.
She added that more stringent standards in the industry would help reduce the risk of clients suffering baldness as a result of extensions.
One example of a woman who experienced hair loss because she added false tresses is Juliet Beasley, who had fake hair glued on in 2006.
She said: "I got bald patches and an itchy scalp. My hair is really only just getting back on track now."
As well as not overusing hair extensions, people looking to avoid losing their locks should ensure they have a diet which satisfies their nutritional requirements.
Doctor of natural medicine Michael Murray recently said that supplements can help to keep hair healthy, WWL reported.
