Hair loss sufferers 'may benefit from seeing a doctor'
Published: 15th of March 2010
It is advisable for some people suffering from hair loss to ask for help from a doctor, it has been noted.Writing in the Daily Telegraph, Dr Giuseppina Del Bianco said that conditions such as hypothyroidism or diabetes may be the cause of the problem, meaning seeking the opinion of medical experts is important.
She made her comments in response to a letter sent in by a reader.
The woman, who is 60 years old, said that she has always had fine hair but recently it has started falling out.
As a result of this, she now has a bald patch.
Dr Del Bianco remarked: "If you feel more tired than usual, more thirsty, or have noticed drier skin or weight gain, do talk to your doctor, who will suggest blood tests."
She went on to note that there are many ways to disguise thinning hair.
Recently, Dr Anil Abraham, head of the dermatology department at St John's Medical College Hospital in Koramangala, suggested that a rising number of women are seeking help for hair loss, the Bangalore Mirror reported.
