Excessive use of hairdryers 'can make hair loss worse'
Published: 11th of March 2010
People seeking to minimise hair loss should not overuse hairdryers, an expert has said.Writing in the Hindu, beautician Shahnaz Hussain noted that this can exacerbate the problem.
Too much heat can result in dryness of the scalp, she pointed out, which is not good for those looking to maintain a healthy head of hair.
According to Ms Hussain, people should keep dryers at least six inches away from their heads when getting rid of moisture.
In addition, "chemical lotions" used when people are attempting to straighten their locks can result in tresses falling out to a greater extent, she claimed.
Recently, dermatologist Mary Gail Mercurio noted that a rising number of women are seeking treatment for hair loss.
Whereas in the past, people tended to "suffer in silence" and try to disguise the problem, now they are more willing to come forward and get help from professionals, she stated.
