Published: 9th of March 2010
A woman who suffers from a hair loss condition has revealed that it has not prevented her from enjoying her life.Writing in the Globe and Mail, Jody Paterson commented on the fact that she has had alopecia universalis for 46 years.
People with this condition have no hair on their scalps or bodies and it is an uncommon problem.
One in five people with alopecia areata go on to develop it, according to figures cited by the NHS.
Commenting on her experiences, Ms Paterson said it has not affected her romantic life.
She added that the only guy who ever dumped her over her lack of hair did it when she was 15, noting: "I've lived a life full of all the 'normal' things a person could want - friends, family, a great career."
Ms Paterson also noted that there are now many ways in which hair loss can be disguised in this "age of online shopping".
