'One in three women' will experience hair loss

A degree of hair loss is not uncommon among women, it has been suggested.Writing on WalesOnline, Dr Joanna Longstaffe, the medical director of the Independent General Practice, said around one in three females experience this medical complaint at some stage of their lives.
She made her comments in response to a reader's letter.
The woman, in her 30s, said that over the last six months, her locks have been thinning in patches.
Dr Longstaffe noted that such difficulties can arise as a result of hormonal changes.
For example, taking certain contraceptive pills can cause hair loss, as can pregnancy.
It is also known that polycystic ovary syndrome can result in hair loss among some sufferers due to the hormonal disruption it causes.
Being aware that other people have the same problem may not be a comfort, however.
Dr Longstaffe stated: "Hair is so intrinsically linked to femininity that sudden loss can be traumatic."
