Hair loss 'makes you realise what's important'
Published: 3rd of March 2010
Suffering from hair loss can make you realise what is important in life, it has been claimed.According to US student Leo Calle, it can alter a person's perspective, the University Press reports.
He suffered from alopecia areata when he was in his teenage years.
The condition, which is thought to be caused by a problem with the immune system, results in patches of baldness occurring.
According to the NHS, it affects around one in 100 people in the UK, predominantly teenagers and young adults. It is thought to run in the family in one in five cases.
Mr Calle said: "I had it when I was 19 and my mom had it when she was having my older sister and, you know, you turn around and start realising what's important in life."
The student was recently involved in a charity event which involved donating hair to make wigs for those suffering from baldness.
