Low iron levels 'can cause hair loss'
Published: 1st of March 2010
Low levels of iron in the blood can result in hair loss, an expert has said.According to trichologist Philip Kingsley, this is one factor which can result in the condition, the Daily Mail reports.
Other potential causes include changes in hormone levels, thyroid problems and deficiencies in nutrition.
Also, ageing can have this affect, Mr Kingsley suggested.
He remarked: "As we get older, the hair follicles produce thinner hair, which is inherently weaker."
However, there are ways in which people can minimise the negative effects getting older can have on their locks.
The expert recommended using products that coat the hair and thus make it look fuller.
People wanting to reduce their risk of hair loss may also wish to consider ensuring they have sufficient levels of protein in their diets.
A lack of the substance - which can be found in meat, dairy and special supplements, among other things - can reduce the health of people's tresses.
