Protein deficiency 'can cause hair loss'
Published: 26th of February 2010
A lack of protein can result in people suffering from hair loss, it has been suggested.Writing on Natural News.com, Melanie Grimes stated that the substance is required for the growth of locks.
It can be added to diets in the form of animal products like meat and dairy, as well as protein shakes made from whey.
In addition, dietary supplements can be taken which contain protein and lentils, beans and pulses are rich in it.
Ms Grimes stated: "Because the hair is made of protein, a protein deficiency can cause hair loss."
It is also important that individuals get sufficient levels of vitamins, she continued.
For example, vitamin B is said to increase hair growth, while vitamin C is needed to keep it healthy. This can be found in foods such as citrus fruits and certain vegetables.
Ms Grimes went on to cite iron as another important part of the diet when it comes to hair health.
