Hair loss can result in "emotional crisis"
Published: 22nd of February 2010
Losing one's hair can be a difficult experience to cope with and for some, it results in an "emotional crisis", it has been claimed.According to an article by Barbara Docherty on SundayNews.co.nz, skin specialists say that shedding locks from the scalp can cause more distress than many severe skin conditions and often it is not taken seriously enough.
She noted that most men, some women and a small number of children go through the experience.
While nothing can be done about certain causes of the condition, such as genetics, there are ways in which the risks of suffering hair loss can be reduced.
For example, Ms Docherty pointed out, diets can be altered in order to encourage the growth of hair.
One popular supplement to be taken alongside a healthy diet is protein, as this can help improve the condition of locks.
The writer added: "Sudden loss of hair or hair coming out in clumps can be due to burns, infection, thyroid disease, chemotherapy, crash diets, medicines, excess vitamin A, severe stress or illness or surgery."
