Girl speaks of how stress caused hair loss
Published: 22nd of February 2010
A schoolgirl has spoken about her experience of how stress caused her to suffer hair loss.Sophie Nixon was bullied for two years at her school and didn't tell anyone about her experiences, meaning her distress continued to rise.
The 12-year-old has now spoken of her troubles, urging others in similar circumstances to "speak up", the Lowestoft Journal reports.
Her hair began falling out two years ago with stress-related alopecia.
Alopecia refers to loss of hair and sometimes baldness and, as the NHS points out, it can lead to or exacerbate problems with confidence and self-esteem.
Offering advice to other youngsters who may be in similar situations as hers, Sophie said: "Don't do what I [did]. I just kept it all inside as I didn't want to tell anyone."
Her locks are beginning to grow back in patches but she still often wears hats and wigs in a bid to hide her baldness.
