A woman has taken action to help youngsters who suffer from hair loss.Julia Hill cut off her waist-length locks in a bid to raise sponsorship for children who have alopecia or cancer, the Isle of Wight County Press reports.
According to the NHS, alopecia areata is a form of hair loss most commonly suffered by teenagers and young adults.
In one in five cases, it runs in the family and it involves patches of baldness that come and go.
Thought to be caused by a problem with the immune system, the condition affects around one in 100 people.
Commenting on her efforts to help sufferers of hair loss via charity the Little Princess Trust, Ms Hill said: "I aimed to raise £300, but last week I had double that total - people have been so generous and money is still coming in on my Justgiving page."
She decided to begin fundraising after her mum lost her hair due to illness.
