Menopause 'may cause hair loss'
Published: 18th of February 2010
The menopause can result in a range of symptoms, potentially including hair loss. This is according to Dolph Henderson, who wrote on ozCarGuide that both skin and hair can experience problems when women enter this phase of their lives.
He recommended that people ensure they have sufficient levels of vitamin E, as this can protect them from some of the detrimental effects.
One food rich in this is avocado, which is also high in mono-saturated fats that can help maintain cells.
Mr Henderson added: "Tofu as well as soy products help alleviate the adverse effects caused due to menopause, like hot flashes."
Recently, medical experts Mehment Oz and Michael Roizen suggested in the Washington Examiner that women who find they are suffering from hair loss may benefit from consulting a doctor.
He claimed that medication can be one factor that leads to the problem, for instance drugs used for thyroid conditions.
