Women experiencing hair loss 'should talk to doctors'
Published: 17th of February 2010
Women who find themselves suffering from hair loss may want to discuss the potential causes with a doctor, it has been noted.Writing in the Washington Examiner, medical experts Mehment Oz and Michael Roizen said that medication can be one factor behind the condition.
They made their comments in response to a question posed by a reader, who said she is taking drugs for a thyroid condition and has begun shedding her locks.
The 71-year-old asked whether the cause for this could be because her medication is too strong.
Replying to her concerns, the experts remarked: "Talk to your doctor about your drugs and, if the hair loss continues, consider consulting a dermatologist with a specialty in hair loss to help diagnose your problem."
They also pointed out that losing hair can be a result of alopecia areata, which the NHS suggests affects around one in a hundred people.
