Published: 15th of February 2010
A girl has suffered hair loss as a result of the stress she suffered while being bullied at school.According to a Sun report cited in NEWS.com.au, 13-year-old Sophie Nixon lost the hair on her head, as well as her eyebrows and eyelashes, after being the subject of nasty treatment from fellow pupils for two years.
She did not inform her parents about the bullying until after she had been taken to the doctor.
Commenting on her experience, she remarked: "I woke up with clumps of hair on my pillow and mum had to clear it up. I started to cry."
Sophie was suffering from stress-related alopecia, which had caused her immune sytem to attack her follicles.
According to the NHS, the most common cause of hair loss in the UK is androgenic alopecia.
The condition can affect both men and women, but it is also given the name male-pattern baldness.
