Early hair loss 'not just a modern phenomenon'

Published: 12th of February 2010
Early hair loss `not just a modern phenomenon` People suffering from early hair loss may be interested to discover that the condition could have been shared by humans in millennia gone by.

Scientists have sequenced the DNA of a frozen Greenlander who is thought to have died 4,000 years ago and found clues that he suffered from the condition.

The team suggested that the individual had the genes for premature hair loss, just like many of his modern counterparts.

They added: "Because we found quite a lot of hair from this guy, we presume he actually died quite young."

According to the researchers behind the discoveries, the sequencing project is a direct test of the extent to which ancient genomics can provide us with knowledge of cultures which are long since extinct.

A recent Boosh Plr article pointed out that hair loss among male celebrities remains a talking point and suggested that it will do for the foreseeable future.
