Crash diets 'can lead to hair loss'
Published: 11th of February 2010
Crash dieting can cause people to suffer from hair loss, an expert has pointed out.According to Dr Robert Leonard, this is one of many potential causes of the problem, the North American Press Syndicate reports.
It is well known that getting sufficient nutrients, including protein, is crucial in maintaining healthy locks.
Dr Leonard also cited certain medications, hormones and thyroid conditions as factors that can result in people shedding hair.
He added that when people suffer from hair loss due to such factors, it tends not to be permanent.
"This type of hair loss is strictly temporary and hair will grow back on its own," he commented:
The expert went on to point out that, contrary to popular belief, hereditary hair loss does not only come from the mother's side of the family but can in fact come from either.
Dr Leonard stated that if people run their fingers across their scalp and eight to ten hairs come out at the root, this may indicate excessive hair loss.
