Folliculitis 'can lead to hair loss'
Published: 9th of February 2010
The condition known as folliculitis can lead to hair loss, it has been suggested.According to an Express Buzz article, the health problem results in some sufferers experiencing scarring to their scalp and permanent hair loss.
Folliculitis is a condition which causes hair follicles to become infected by bacteria, viruses or fungi.
While infection via contact with others who have it is not common, it is recommended that those suffering from the complaint avoid close contact with very young babies and people who have a weakened immune system.
The Express Buzz report suggested that factors which may increase the likelihood of suffering from the problem include inflammatory skin conditions like dermatitis.
It added: "Mild cases of folliculitis often respond well to home care. Apply a warm, moist washcloth or compress to the affected area several times a day to relieve discomfort."
Meanwhile, people who suffer from frequent infections of folliculitis may want to consider visiting a doctor.
