Hair loss in men 'can be caused by various things'
Published: 4th of February 2010
Men can experience hair loss for a variety of reasons, it has been claimed.According to an article in the Express & Star, more than ten million males in the UK have the condition.
By the time they reach their 60s, most men are displaying some degree of baldness, it pointed out.
However, many individuals begin to lose their locks much earlier than this.
The article suggested that male pattern baldness - a form of alopecia - is the most common reason for hair loss.
Illness, age and genetics play a part in the development of the condition, the publication noted.
It commented: "Some men go bald because they are genetically disposed to do so. Their genetic make-up means that they produce more of a chemical called dihydrotestosterone, which weakens the hair follicles."
Recently, TV personality Michael Winner revealed that he uses beer on his scalp as a way of keeping his hair looking full and thick.
