Crash dieting and stress 'can cause hair loss'

Published: 2nd of February 2010
Crash dieting and stress `can cause hair loss` People who choose to go on crash diets and those who experience significant stress may find themselves suffering from hair loss, it has been claimed.

According to a WZZM report, while people lose an average of between 75 and 100 hairs per day, this number can rise dramatically in such circumstances.

It stated: "Hollywood has set the standard for hair - lots of it - but to keep that kind of long lustrous hair you've got to eat right."

Meanwhile, medical expert Dr Lance Owens suggested that when people fail to get sufficient nutrients, their follicles can go into a resting phase and they may ultimately experience temporary hair loss.

He suggested that the resting phase generally lasts for between three and six months and then it can take a further six months for the hair to grow back to where it is noticeable.

One substance which is known to be important in terms of reducing the risk of hair loss is protein, while vitamins are considered a priority too.
