Change of medication may reduce hair loss, woman advised
Published: 27th of January 2010
A woman who complained to the Los Angeles Times of hair loss has been advised to rethink the medication she is on.The individual, who described herself as a 39-year-old nurse, wrote to Joe Graedon and Teresa Graedon at the publication, saying she has experienced a "drastic" reduction in the amount of hair she has.
She revealed that she began taking medication for high blood pressure around four months ago, adding: "One month after beginning the med, I started losing hair."
According to the nurse, her colleagues advised her to try to reduce her blood pressure without using the drugs, for example by exercising.
Responding to her concerns, Mr and Ms Graedon said: "If diet, exercise and other natural approaches are not adequate for blood pressure control, there are other medicines for hypertension that may be less likely to cause hair loss."
Those keen to maximise the health of their hair are advised by experts to ensure they eat a nutritionally balanced diet which contains sufficient amounts of substances such as protein.
