Fashion conscious women 'risking hair loss'
Published: 27th of January 2010
Women who try to emulate fashion icons by donning hair extensions may be increasing their risk of experiencing hair loss, it has been claimed.According to a report in the Daily Express, the fashion conscious may be damaging their locks by copying the looks sported by celebrities such as Victoria Beckham and X Factor judge Cheryl Cole.
The publication claimed that females as young as 20 are having to undergo treatment for hair problems because they are suffering from traction alopecia.
This can occur when extensions exert constant tension on strands of hair for a long period of time.
According to the Daily Express, this can damage the scalp and follicles and consequently lead to problems.
It went on to site a comment made on the topic by actress Jennifer Aniston, who is best-known for her role as Rachel in Friends.
She said: "Nothing destroys your hair faster than extensions."
