Hair loss 'can be caused by a number of things'
Published: 18th of January 2010
People can experience hair loss for a number of reasons, according to one medical expert.Writing on eMaxHealth, Ramona Bates suggested that psychological or emotional stresses can be behind such medical problems.
In addition, nutritional deficiencies can lead to a shedding of hair, she pointed out.
Ms Bates went on to say that there are a number of medical conditions which can cause or exacerbate hair loss.
For example, inflammatory bowel disease and kidney and liver problems can have this effect.
Also, issues with the thyroid - which is a gland located in the neck responsible for producing hormones to control the body's growth and metabolism - can result in people losing their hair.
According to Ms Bates, those who experience a noticeable or increased thinning of their hair should seek medical advice from an expert in the field.
She recommended that it is better to do so "sooner rather than later".
