Hair loss 'can psychologically affect women'
Published: 13th of January 2010
When women suffer hair loss, they can experience psychological problems as a result. This is according to hairdresser Michael Rivelli, who said that often female clients with the condition enter his salon "crying their eyes out" and in need of counselling, the Nottingham Evening Post reports.
The expert went on to state: "When they lose their hair they lose their femininity."
Earlier this month, the 43-year-old launched a new studio specialising in providing hair loss sufferers with wigs.
The salon is to be officially opened by Loose Women star Sherrie Hewson later this month.
Mr Rivelli is not alone in his belief that women can be affected by losing their locks.
Writing in the Dearborn Press and Guide recently, Dr Michael Thibadeau from the Henry Ford Health System suggested that greater significance is placed on female baldness than on the equivalent condition in men, meaning more of an adjustment is required.
