Hair loss caused by dermatitis 'should re-grow'
Published: 12th of January 2010
People who suffer hair loss as a result of the medical condition dermatitis should experience re-growth if the problem is dealt with successfully. This is according to Dr Hilary Jones, who was answering a question posed by a reader in the News of the World.
The medical expert, who has appeared on TV shows such as GMTV, said dermatitis sufferers who tackle the issue should see their hair come back within a few months.
Nutritional supplements can be taken in order to stimulate follicle regeneration, he added.
However, individuals recovering from the condition should avoid "harsh treatment" such as perms or dyes as this could do them damage, he claimed.
Dr Jones went on recommend unperfumed shampoos as they are "kind to the scalp".
There are several types of dermatitis, such as atopic, allergic contact and irritant contact.
According to the NHS, irritant contact is more common than allergic contact, with around 80 per cent of cases caused by irritants.
