Do not panic about hair loss, women advised
Published: 6th of January 2010
Women who find they are losing their hair should try not to panic, it has been claimed.Writing in the Telegraph, Bryony Gordon suggested that this is one of the worst things an individual can do, adding that a considerable number of people have experienced alopecia at some stage.
The 29-year-old herself suffers from the condition - which NHS figures suggest affects around one in 100 people, with teenagers and young adults among those most likely to get it.
Ms Gordon discovered she had alopecia at the age of 19 and said her hair has been "coming and going as it pleases ever since".
She remarked: "I was a young girl about to start at university. And yet when I looked in the mirror I saw the scalp of a middle-aged man."
According to Ms Gordon, she did not receive much constructive advice when she went to her doctor to discuss the problem and so she decided to research the condition herself.
