Hair loss 'can be caused by stress'
Published: 10th of November 2009
Hair loss has been highlighted as one of the major side effects of a stressful lifestyle.Online Athens noted that the Christmas season can exacerbate feelings of anxiety, as people struggle to cope.
It pointed to American Psychological Association findings that chronic stress can lead to a variety of long-term problems, which include hair loss, weight gain and even heart disease.
Yoga teacher Robin Bewley advised those trying to deal with stress to change their mindset once they have recognised the signs.
"Somebody who is hysterical cannot think about organising," she was quoted as saying. "Someone on the verge of tears or frozen because they are overwhelmed has to find a way to return to centre."
Workplace stress could be contributing to the problem, as managing director of Badenoch & Clark Neil Wilson recently observed that feelings of job insecurity in the current economic climate are making many employees anxious.
