Hair loss treatments 'make thinning optional'
Published: 14th of October 2009
Modern hair loss treatments mean people can choose not to suffer baldness and thinning hair, it has been argued.Hair specialist Dr Alan Bauman was quoted by WFTV as stating that many consumers are not aware of the methods available.
He explained that 100 million people in the US have suffered from hair loss, with 60 per cent of them being men.
But hair loss products such as Viviscal could help reduce these figures and Dr Bauman noted that new tests designed to predict whether or not someone will be affected mean people may be able to anticipate the effects.
"Hair loss is certainly, today, optional ... meaning that you can choose not to have hair loss if you undergo [treatment]," he said. "Many people in the general public don't really know that treatments exist."
Speaking to the Portsmouth News recently, Rachael Shaw told of the psychological impact that hair loss had on her when it set in at the age of 16, although she added that she was able to regain her confidence later in life.
