Mum: ADHD gave my son alopecia
Published: 23rd of July 2010
A mum has spoken out in favour of more help for victims of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) after the condition caused her son to suffer from male hair loss.Reece Sinclair was constantly accused of misbehaving in class and his mother Avril was at the end of her tether wondering how to solve the situation, the West Lothian Courier reported.
However, when the five-year-old started suffering from alopecia and began to lose patches of his hair, the mum-of-three realised that the problem went deeper than bad behaviour, stemming from a physical cause.
Alopecia can come about as a result of anxiety, stress or trauma.
She took him to the doctor, where he was diagnosed with ADHD, a condition which leaves the sufferer unable to focus for long periods of time.
Now Ms Sinclair wants better help for parents of sufferers in the area and has gone as far as to set up a support group.
