Could hair loss affect fingernails?
Published: 21st of July 2010
Hair loss can affect confidence and the vision people may have of themselves.Furthermore, it may even lead to nail damage, according to Irish newspaper the Mayo News.
A piece by expert Bernie Fahy pointed out that alopecia - a condition that comes in two forms, areata, causing patchy baldness on the scalp and total, leading to complete body hairlessness - leads to "pitted and ridged nails".
To protect your talons, the correspondent suggested using petroleum jelly to moisturise the nail bed and wearing gloves in bed to lock in the solution.
Moreover, avoiding acetone-based varnish remover, going for acetate instead, should strengthen claws, while investing in a good manicure or at-home set can both improve the quality of nails and potentially boost confidence.
Meanwhile, avoiding heavy styling products on the scalp, such as extensions, could steer you clear of traction baldness - areas of hair loss caused by the drag from such additions.
