Male hair loss sufferers 'less likely to develop prostate cancer'
Published: 16th of March 2010
Male hair loss sufferers `less likely to develop prostate cancer` Men who begin balding at an early age may be less likely to develop prostate cancer, it has been claimed.

According to a study conducted in the US, males whose hairline begins to recede in their younger years have a 45 per cent reduced chance of developing the disease, the Telegraph reports.

The scientists linked the high levels of testosterone in hair loss sufferers with a lower risk of tumours.

According to Cancer Research UK, rates of the condition have tripled in Britain over the last three decades and more than 35,000 men were diagnosed with it in 2006.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Professor Jonathan Wright from the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle said the results were "surprising" at first.

He added: "But we found that early onset baldness was associated with a 29 per cent to 45 per cent reduction in their relative risk of prostate cancer."
