Published: 12th of March 2010
An individual has spoken of his experience of hair loss caused by thyroid problems.Andy Bryant, who is 51 and has no history of underactive thyroids in his family, began suffering from the condition six years ago, the Los Angeles Daily News reports.
One of the symptoms his doctor picked up on was his brittle hair.
Other effects included fatigue, weight gain, elevated cholesterol, coldness and dry skin.
Mr Bryant said he was surprised to discover the cause of his ailments, as he had heard thyroid complaints were predominantly a female issue.
Commenting on the thinning of his tresses, he stated: "In the morning, I'd comb it and it would be falling out on the counter."
He went on to reveal that his symptoms have lessened since he began treatment.
Mr Bryant's condition is also referred to as hypothyroidism and it means that the level of thyroxin produced is too low.
