Hair loss 'encouraged Matt Lucas to play the joker'
Published: 9th of March 2010
The fact that he suffered from alopecia from a young age encouraged comedian and actor Matt Lucas to play the comic. This is according to a Los Angeles Times blog post by Geoff Boucher, who interviewed the celebrity in the US during a promotional trip for his latest film Alice in Wonderland.
In the movie, Lucas plays Tweedledee and Tweedledum, with his baldness coming in handy for the roles.
He lost his hair at the age of six and it has never returned since.
Mr Boucher observed that this, along with his weight, has made him "play the joker with more than a little self-loathing" in the past.
Recently, Lucas said that his alopecia was not the cause of him gaining weight, the Daily Mail reported.
Rather, the extra pounds he was carrying were a result of his greed, he stated.
Over the last few months, however, he has succeeded in slimming down considerably.
