Those trying to avoid hair loss 'should meet their protein needs'
Published: 5th of March 2010
People who are attempting to avoid hair loss should make sure they get enough protein.According to nutritionist and registered dietician Lenore Greenstein, the substance is crucial for individual's health.
Writing in the Marco Island Sun Times, she said: "Protein contains the building blocks of our body's structure by forming the back bone of our muscle, blood, organs, hair, skin and nails."
Dietary protein is broken down into 20 amino acids, the expert noted, which are needed for growth, maintenance and repair.
Since people cannot make it themselves, it is necessary to get it from food.
Among the sources noted by the expert were eggs, fish, lean meat and poultry, as well as beans, legumes and grains.
It is also possible to take supplements to boost the level of protein in diets and this is one way in which some people try to combat hair loss, as well as other health issues.
