Man describes surprise at suffering hair loss
Published: 10th of February 2010
A man has detailed his path from having a full head of hair to baldness, saying he was surprised it happened to him.Writing on AnnArbor.com, photojournalist Lon Horwedel said that when he was young he had a thick mane of gold hair, which he was very proud of.
However, when he reached the age of 19, he began suffering from male pattern baldness.
According to the NHS, this is the most common form of hair loss and it can affect both men and women. It is also referred to as androgenic alopecia.
Commenting on the process of losing his locks, Mr Horwedel said: "It wasn't like my hair started falling out in clumps or anything, but there definitely was a recession of sorts starting to take place."
Now, in order to stop himself suffering from a sunburned scalp in summer, he has to wear a hat to cover his bald spot, he noted.
