Many women suffer hair loss by 40, expert says
Published: 4th of February 2010
A considerable number of women experience some degree of hair loss by the time they reach the age of 40, it has been claimed.According to Dr Robert Leonard, a member of the Board of Governors for the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, by this stage of their lives, around 40 per cent of females will have the condition.
He commented: "Unfortunately most don't realise their hair is thinning until they have lost 50 percent of it but it's easier to keep the hair you have than to restore what you have lost."
One way in which people can try to keep their locks healthy is by ensuring they consume sufficient nutrients, including protein.
Dr Leonard's comments come in the wake of a study conducted by Wakefield Research, which found that more than 75 per cent of people in the US wrongly cite stress as a leading cause of hair loss.
